National Maritime Museum
Greenwich, London
Visit any day
Ships, exploration and the sea.
- Home ed
- Home education groups can book any of the facilitated school sessions at the National Maritime Museum, Queen's House and Cutty Sark, at school rates. Groups need 15–30 learners. Royal Museums Greenwich also piloted a free Home Education Day in September 2026, which filled up – watch their home education page for the next one.
- Good to know
- Booked sessions need a group of at least 15 learners, so this suits organised groups rather than single families.
Why we'd go
The Ahoy! gallery is brilliant for under-8s – stoke a steamship boiler, run a fish market – and can easily fill a couple of hours. Free on term-time weekdays.
Watch out for
Ahoy! is ticketed in 45-minute sessions at weekends and in holidays; book ahead even on weekdays to guarantee entry. It's aimed at ages 0–7, so older children will want the main galleries.
Details last checked: 1 October 2026. Please check with the venue before you travel.
