Two Tudor coastal castles.

- English Heritage gives home education groups free entry for a self-led learning visit. Book at least 14 days ahead with clear learning objectives; the group must be not-for-profit and led by its own leader. Adult ratios: 1:6 for ages 5–7, 1:10 for 7–11, 1:15 for 11–18. Walmer lends free Treasure Boxes for KS1–2. Book at bookings.english-heritage.org.uk/education or call 0370 333 0606.
Why we'd go
Deal Castle is the favourite with children: tunnels to explore, borrowed wellies and wooden muskets, and hands-on exhibits. Walmer has gardens, a woodland trail and small play areas.
Watch out for
They're two separate sites with separate tickets. Deal's tunnels are dark and can be wet underfoot.
