Why we'd go
Great fun from about age 5: climb the Norman keep, do the quiz sheet and chat to costumed staff. The free Guildhall Museum nearby has toys dotted around and a prison-hulk display.
Watch out for
The castle has 155 steep, uneven spiral steps that are slippery when wet – not for anyone unsteady, and hard with little ones. The Guildhall is over several floors.
