Why we'd go

A Victorian collection of mounted animals, from elephants to beetles, over several floors, with activity sheets to spot things. Free entry (donation suggested); a couple of hours is about right.

Watch out for

Very busy in holidays and on wet weekends – avoid bank holidays. Pushchairs aren't allowed inside, and the dim galleries and some specimens can unsettle little ones.

Details last checked: 1 October 2026. Please check with the venue before you travel.
