- Free home education sessions once a month from September to May, on a Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, in three age groups: 5–7, 7–11 and 11–16. You must register in advance by emailing the form to [email protected]. Zoo entry is not included, and home educators don't get the school rate – use standard tickets, a zoo pass, or a group booking of 15 or more.

Why we'd go
One of the UK's best-regarded zoos, with a big collection, free animal talks and feeds through the day, and a free land train.
Watch out for
Very hilly, with lots of walking – wear comfy shoes, follow the 'easier route' on the map and use the train uphill. Tickets are cheaper booked ahead than on the door. Arrive early.
